Phonics is the main way the Government advise schools to teach early reading. Phonics is learning to read by using letter sounds and blending them together to make words. Earlier this year the Government announced changes to the teaching of phonics in schools to ensure that programmes met national standards. In order to ensure our children receive the absolute best teaching of phonics, we have decided to implement the teaching of Rocket Phonics at our school.

Reading Planet Rocket Phonics is a DfE validated SSP programme. The aim of the programme is to help every child to keep up and not catch-up through steady pace and progression, whole-class teaching and consistent daily phonics practice.
