Kilvrough 2024!
Friday evening: Please keep an eye on ParentMail for updates on our journey but we should be leaving Kilvrough at 3pm today. Please park considerately so that the coach is able to park outside the school. We will see you this evening!
Day 5 - daytime
Friday 27th September
We got up slightly earlier (after another good night’s sleep) to make sure we were packed and ready! We had to bring all our things down to the classroom and then had a yummy breakfast of cereal and toast. After that was our final room inspection (scores to be announced next week!). We then got the things we needed for our final adventure, our beach day! We took a short minibus drive to a local beach and went rockpooling for about an hour. After lunch we got stuck in with some natural beach artwork! We then packed up and headed back to the centre.
Day 4 - evening
Thursday 26th September
This evening, the children had the task of packing! It seemed like an impossible task but the children all worked together and we haven't lost that many of our items! We had a yummy tea of pizza, salad and wedges and then had to prove that our rooms were tidy and we could close our suitcases. After that, we headed downstairs to pick a film to watch altogether. We chose Kung Fu Panda! Along with the other school, we then enjoyed a slice of cake and some quiet with the film. We are all looking forward to heading home tomorrow and getting a hug from our parents but we are all still having a great time!
Day 4 - daytime
Thursday 26th September
Today is Elliott's birthday! We were very excited to spend his special day with him. The children all slept brilliantly and we had a good start to our day. We had a yummy breakfast of sausage baps and cereal before getting set up for our day. Unfortunately, due to rising water levels and flooded roads, we were not able to go caving today. Whilst the children were a bit upset by this, we were offered the exciting opportunity to go on a coastal exploration and beach scramble day instead! Splitting off into two groups today, we set off to the coast, hoping to avoid the rain. We had a really exciting day, exploring the coastline, finding shells and fossils and climbing round the edges of the cliffs! We got home and started packing (after a quick shower!).
Day 3 - evening
Wednesday 25th September
When we got back from the day trip, we had our showers and then the sun came out which meant we could...play some football! Lots of us came down and played in the lovely grounds for a girls v boys match. We then went down for a yummy roast dinner and chocolate mousse.
This evening, we went out and did some den building. While very tired, the children worked together to build the best dens they could to try and hold their whole group. There was no rain and the children were proud of their creations. We got home, got ready for bed and got set up for (hopefully) another good night's sleep.
Day 3 - daytime
Wednesday 25th September
We had the best night's sleep last night, the children did us proud! We came down for a yummy breakfast of cereal and bacon bap before getting ready for today. We went...bodyboarding! We had to wear our swimming costume, then a rash vest and a full body wetsuit. The first challenge was trying to all get into our wetsuits!! Once all dressed, we took a 20-minute minibus trip to a nearby beach with some great waves. After listening to the safety instructions, we all got into the water and had the best time. We spent just over two hours swimming and playing in the waves throughout the rain and hail. While cold by the end, the children were in great spirits and we got home to have hot showers.
The photos from this trip are on the centre's camera and will be uploaded on Friday.
Day 2 - evening
Tuesday 24th September
This evening, we had a great dinner of spag bol and garlic bread and then a lovely apple crumble! After this, we got ready to go for a night walk to find the ruins of the castle! Lovely weather, no rain, and clear skies, we couldn't have asked for a better night. We left and got to see the sunset and headed back looking at the stars.
We got home and had a quick turnaround to get ready for bed! Well done for another great evening Year 6!
Day 2 - daytime
Tuesday 24th September
The children did us proud last night and slept brilliantly! A few of us found falling asleep quite tricky but we persevered and it wasn't a late one, hooray! After a yummy breakfast of cereal and toast, we all got ready for a day of climbing. We had a five minute minibus journey to the coast and then a fun, rocky walk down to the beach. We split into our three groups and took turns with scrambling, climbing and abseiling. When we were scrambling, we had to use our hands and feet to safely traverse the rocks around the cliff, all while avoiding the sea! When abseiling, we had to trust in our friends and ourselves to walk over the edge of the cliff and make it down. For the climbing, we had to work really hard to climb back up the cliff we had just gone down.
The children did us proud today. Everybody joined us scrambling, even those of us who were a bit nervous, and a great percentage of the children tried their best at abseiling. They worked on their communication, and were so kind to each other when they were struggling. Well done Year 6! A great first full day.
Day 2 - evening
Monday 23rd September
This evening, we all spent time in the centre completing some orienteering! The children got to form groups and went around finding key locations on a map. When they found the locations, they had to punch the holes to check that they were in the right place. After the activity, the children got ready for bed, we had a bit of time together and then went off to bed...where we hope we're going to get a full 8 hours (staff included)!!
Day 1 - daytime
Monday 23rd September
Today was a busy day! We said goodbye to our family at 9am and arrived at Kilvrough by 1pm. We found out our rooms, had our lunch and got straight into activity groups. All the children worked with their activity groups to solve some problem solving and team buildign activities. The groups all worked well on their communication and resilience, well done Year 6!
