SEND

Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) is Mrs Barnes.  If you would like to contact Mrs Barnes, please telephone the school office on 01993 881446.

Please find below information regarding our core offer.

At Hanborough Manor CE Primary School, we are proud to be a fully inclusive school where every child is valued and supported to achieve their full potential. We believe that high-quality, appropriately differentiated teaching is the foundation for meeting the needs of all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

A child is identified as having SEND if they experience significantly greater difficulty in learning than others of the same age, or if a disability affects their access to education. We follow the Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle to ensure that support is purposeful, effective and responsive. Progress is reviewed termly by teachers, the SENDCo and senior leaders, and provision is adapted to meet individual needs.

We support pupils across the four broad areas of need:

  • Communication and Interaction

  • Cognition and Learning

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health

  • Sensory and/or Physical Needs

If a child is experiencing difficulties, concerns are discussed with parents and, where appropriate, the child may be placed on the SEND register to access additional support. Our SENDCo, Mrs Shannon Baker-Roberts, oversees all SEND provision and works closely with staff, families and external professionals.

Our Provision Includes:

  • High-quality adaptive teaching in every classroom

  • Small group and individual interventions tailored to need

  • Specialist programmes for literacy, numeracy, language and social skills

  • Emotional wellbeing and pastoral support (e.g. ELSA, Zones of Regulation)

  • Personalised support plans and Learning Plans for SEND pupils

  • Access to assistive technology and adapted resources

  • A fully accessible site with ramps and disabled facilities

We work with a wide range of external professionals including Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, CAMHS, SENSS teams and Inclusion Consultants.

Parents are central to our SEND process. Families meet with teachers three times a year to review progress and set new outcomes. Pupils are encouraged to share their views and be active participants in their learning.

Children with SEND are fully included in all aspects of school life, including trips and extracurricular activities. Reasonable adjustments and risk assessments ensure safe and equal access for all.

Where a child’s needs are complex and long-term, the school may apply for an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) in partnership with parents and the Local Authority.

Our aim is simple:
To create a happy, nurturing and ambitious learning environment where every child feels valued, supported and able to succeed.
