Year 2

Welcome to the Year 2 section of the website.  This is where we will be sharing children's work and useful information about what we get up to in Year 2.  This term our topic is based around the book 'Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain'.  We will be learning about Africa with a particular country study of Kenya.  Children will learn to identify countries and continents; about the significance and symbolism of the Kenyan flag and about animals and habitats.  They will compare life and weather between Kenya and UK and will participate in lots of lovely Art activities.

In Year 2, children will continue with daily phonics lessons and weekly talk topics and Big Write.  They will participate in group and individual reading sessions and their reading record will be initialled.  The reading record is an excellent way of communicating with us, so please take the opportunity to read regularly with your child and make a comment.

Now for some reminders:

  • Please ensure children's belongings are named.  It really does help to get things back to the right person
  • PE will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but a full kit should be kept in school all week.  As we experience colder weather please make sure children have navy jogger bottoms for outdoor PE
  • Children will need a named water bottle in school
  • A pair of outdoor shoes is required
  • Please remember book bags every day

Homework will be handed out on a Wednesday for handing in on the following Monday.  Please do not hesitate to come and see us if there are any problems with the homework.  Reading, spelling and times tables are regular homework activities and we encourage the 'little and often' approach.  Ten minutes a day is very effective.

If you have any questions or concerns at all please come and see us.
