"Beside the Sea"
Our topic for the Summer is "Beside the Seaside!"
We will be using the story of "The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch" as a starting point for our topic. In history we will be finding out how seaside holidays have changed and the life of Grace Darling. The children will discover where different lighthouses are and look at different coastal features found around the UK. The class will be using a range of different media to create seascapes and coastal pictures. In DT they will design and make their own lunchbox and lighthouse. In science we will look at light and how to make a simple electrical circuit to light up a lighthouse light. We will also be thinking about healthy eating and the different creatures that live in the sea. The class are already looking forward to showcasing this term's work at our Showcase on 12th July!
It is very important that you hear your child read as often as possible and to help them learn the "House" and then the "Fish" words.
The class will be having daily phonics sessions and will be having weeklyTalk-Topics for Big Write.
The class will be doing PE on a Thursday and Friday; please make sure your child has their PE kit, including outdoor shoes, in school from Monday. It is VERY important that ALL clothes are named.
ALSO PLEASE REMEMBER THAT children should have in school, every day, their outdoor shoes, water bottles and book folders .
If someone different is picking up your child please remember to write in the collecting book in the cloakroom saying who is picking them up.
The children will be given their homework on a Wednesday which should be returned on the following Monday. Please support them in the learning of their spellings and in reading regularly . If you are not clear on what to do for the homework please do ask.
The children will continue to be heard reading twice a week, once individually and once in their groups, their books will be changed at these times. If they need to change their books in between these times please come in after school to change them.
If you have any problems then please do come and see me after school.
